Ch'i Kung and T'ai Chi for Health
Traditional Practices for
Health, Vitality, and Personal Development
In western culture, the concept of personal energy has, at best, often been misunderstood, and at worst, been completely ignored. In the East, however, the understanding and proper use of our vital energy, or Ch'i, is considered the foundation of a truly holistic approach to health, well being, and self fulfillment.
Ch'i Kung and T'ai Chi are ancient health and
healing arts that originated in China. Ch'i Kung (often written "Ch'i Gong" or
"QiGong") incorporates controlled breathing with corresponding gentle movements to release and move "ch'i"
or "vital energy" throughout the body. The development and movement of
ch'i aids the body in its ability to heal itself, boost immune system
function, reduce stress, and create balance and well-being physically,
mentally, and emotionally. T'ai Chi Ch'uan, (T'ai Chi for short) simply an advanced form of Ch'i Kung,
incorporates all the same principles, putting more movements together
to create a routine or "form." Although the techniques of Ch'i Kung
and T'ai Chi intrinsically have martial/self defense applications,
the focus in this class is on the health benefits associated with
the practice of these arts.
Finally, here in the west people are realizing
the true value of these traditional eastern arts that have stood the test
of time, having been practiced in parts of Asia for thousands of years.
Now more than ever, the benefits, protection, strength, and vitality that these practices
provide are critically needed – and anyone can do it!
